A classic Black Forest Cake featuring rich chocolate layers, tart cherries, and fluffy whipped cream, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 jar (24 oz) Morello cherries, drained and juice reserved
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)
  • Chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined.
  4. Stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
  6. Slice each cake in half horizontally to create four layers.
  7. Place one layer on a serving plate, soak with cherry juice, and spread a layer of whipped cream followed by some cherries.
  8. Repeat with the remaining layers, soaking each with cherry juice and adding whipped cream and cherries in between. On the top layer, finish with another layer of whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings.

Notes

Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Soaking the layers with cherry juice adds moisture and flavor.
