A nostalgic and delicious banana cream pie filled with silky custard, fresh bananas, and fluffy whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-baked pie crust
  • 3 large bananas
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and starts to boil.
  2. Prepare the Egg Yolks: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly pour some of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolks while whisking continuously.
  3. Combine Mixtures and Cook: Pour the egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and butter.
  4. Layer the Bananas: Slice the bananas and layer them in the pre-baked pie crust.
  5. Pour the Custard: Pour the warm custard over the bananas, spreading it evenly.
  6. Cool and Chill: Allow the pie to cool to room temperature before refrigerating for at least 4 hours.
  7. Whip the Cream: Before serving, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form and spread it over the pie.
